Anne Drew grew up in Berkeley, California. She studied her BA at Swarthmore College, where her art work was particularly informed by courses in history, science, and dance. A lecture by Leslie Feinberg in her senior year introduced Anne Drew to some of the language and theory that describe her concerns with gender and identity. After some time working in social services, Anne Drew decided to pursue art full time. She studied her first Master of Fine Arts at the New York Academy of Art in New York City, which provided a rigorous education in the human figure through both observation and conceptual models. Upon graduating from the Academy, Anne Drew was awarded a travel fellowship to the U.K. through the Royal Academy of Art in London. Wanting to have more concentrated studio time she pursued a second Masters, in ceramics, at Indiana University, Bloomington, where she received the Friends of Art Fellowship. Upon graduating in 2007, Anne Drew received the Matsutani Fellowship at the Archie Bray Foundation in Helena, MT, where she recently concluded her residency in the fall of 2009. Anne Drew has so far lived in six U.S. states and Oaxaca City, Mexico, and currently resides in West Lafayette, IN.
